Dr Matt Dwyer

Dr Dwyer has been a GP on the Sunshine Coast since 2010.

Dr Dwyer initially qualified as a physiotherapist in 1996 and spent several years working in the private sector, managing sporting injuries and covering sporting events. Matt returned to medical school in 2000, becoming a specialist General Practitioner in 2007. Subsequently, he studied Musculoskeletal and Sports Medicine in Christchurch, New Zealand in 2010.  Matt has been the Chief Medical Officer for teams in the Queensland Cup Rugby League competition since 2008 and was the Melbourne Storm National Youth Competitions Medical Officer for 2016 and 2017. Matt is also currently the Chief Medical Officer for the Sunshine Coast Lightning Netball team and game day medical officer for the Melbourne Storm. Dr Dwyer has a unique insight into treating sports injuries, having played himself at a high level in a number of sports. Matt’s sporting career culminated in him playing a season in the NRL for the Gold Coast Chargers.

Dr Matt Dwyer also works as a surgical assistant in orthopaedics,  and has done so since 2011.  If your injury requires surgery, Dr Dwyer will often be in theatre assisting with your case, thereby assuring continuity of care.

Jackie is the Practice Manager. Originally a primary school teacher, Jackie has been at SCSMC since it’s inception. All administrative and business queries should be directed to Jackie. Jackie is available most days.
